Early sketches and exploration for the Romulus Lab seen in Alien: Romulus
-
Fede Alvarez and Naaman Marshall proposed the idea of the Romulus Lab as an ‘oval shaped’ room that was to feel more modern than other spaces we see on the ship. The design of the room was to be highly functional and experimental in its aesthetic. The proposed design includes key high-tech elements on display; a central fridge, robotic arms, workstations and water filled tanks holding clusters of facehuggers being harvested for their ‘black goo’.

These drawings also depict the development of the design through the early stages of pre-production. Some early ideas that differred from the final design include 'The Freezer', which contained Facehuggers hanging on hooks, resembling a mix between a 'meat fridge' and 'milking room'. Facehuggers would be hung, whilst their 'black goo' would be extracted and proccessed through a filtration machine that would then feed into the main part of the lab.
